Geography of Udayamperoor Grama Panchayat
Udayamperoor Grama Panchayat is an important village panchayat located in the Kunnathunad (Kanayannur) Taluk of Ernakulam district in Kerala. As part of the Mulamthuruthy Block Panchayat, this Panchayat is geographically characterized by a unique blend of backwater regions and mainland terrain.
The western boundary of the Panchayat lies along the Vembanad Lake, making the region rich in water resources and offering significant opportunities for fishing and related livelihoods. Since several wards are located along the lakefront, the area also possesses a coastal and backwater character.
On the eastern side, major road networks connect the Panchayat to nearby urban centers. The Vaikom–Thrippunithura Road serves as the main transportation corridor of the Panchayat. To the north, the Panchayat is bordered by Thrippunithura and Chottanikkara, to the east by Mulamthuruthy, and to the west by Vembanad Lake.
The topography of Udayamperoor is generally flat and enriched with water bodies, canals, and streams. This geographical setting supports agriculture, especially paddy cultivation, coconut farming, fishing, and other backwater-related livelihoods.
The Panchayat experiences a tropical monsoon climate, with relatively high humidity and good rainfall throughout the year, supporting agriculture and water availability. However, during the monsoon season, challenges such as waterlogging and coastal erosion are experienced in certain areas.
The combination of geographical features, backwater culture, natural resources, and transportation facilities makes Udayamperoor a Grama Panchayat with significant development potential.
According to the order issued by the Kerala Delimitation Commission on May 15, 2025, the electoral wards of Udayamperoor Grama Panchayat have been reorganized. Based on this, the Panchayat has been divided into 23 electoral constituencies (wards), and the number of elected representatives in the Grama Panchayat has been fixed at 23.
