Panchayat

A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives responsible for carrying out the administrative functions of Panchayati Raj institutions. In the context of a Gram Panchayat, it is the main committee that implements the decisions of the Gram Sabha and manages day-to-day governance.Main Components of a Panchayat:President:The head of the Panchayat. The President presides over meetings and oversees the overall functioning of the Panchayat.Vice President:Performs the responsibilities of the President in their absence.Ward Members:Elected representatives chosen from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees:These are sub-committees formed to facilitate decision-making in areas such as finance, development, welfare, health, education, and other related matters.

History of Grama Panchayat

Udayamperoor Grama Panchayat, located under the Mulamthuruthy Block in Kanayannur Taluk of Ernakulam District, is a region of significant historical and cultural importance, covering an area of 24.85 square kilometers. Surrounded by several neighboring Panchayats and the Thrippunithura Municipality, the area still preserves the historic Travancore–Cochin boundary stones as monuments of the past. The historically renowned Synod of Diamper (Udayamperoor Synod) held here in 1599 is regarded as a landmark event in the history of the Christian Church.
